31 artists from 20 countries and three continents will be participating in the first Fantastic Art Biennale this Autumn in Viechtach located in the Bavarian forest. Under the direction of Lukáš Kándl representative artists of the Fantastic Painting will present their artworks. The opening will take place on Saturday 11th September at 7PM. Guest speaker, Gerhard Habarta, the author of the Lexicon of the Fantastic Artists will be present.

Czech-born Lukáš Kándl, who has lived since the early 70s in France, has from 2004 onwards, brought together the best international artists of the magical realism in the group “Libellule”. The first project the group realized was the “Ange exquis” (Exalted Angel). Participating artists followed Kándl’s exact terms of reference so that each a work became part of a single unified monumental piece. The “Ange exquis” was first presented in the Grand Palais (Paris), before it went on tour throughout Europe and then finally in the Autumn of 2008 in Viechtach.

Kándl decides each year the topic and and format for the group’s exhibition. From 11 September 2010 art lovers have in the Old Town Hall Viechtach, a unique opportunity to see the first Fantastic Art Biennale at the gallery. The theme remains a secret. But this much is certain; much of the work was already shown at the Paris Grand Palais, so that one may be assured of great artistic quality. This is guaranteed by the names of the 31 artists: Sergei Aparin (RUS/SER), Anne Bachelier (F), Jean Bailly (F), Michel Bassot (F), Patrizia Comand (I), Yo Coquelin (F), Raffaele de Rosa (I), Željko Djurovic (SER/ MNE), Antoine Duc (F), Hugues Gillet (F), Mitsuyoshi Haruguchi (J), Zoran Ivanovic (SER), Zdenek Janda (CZ), Alexandra Jontschewa (BUL/D), Kamal Kaikaoss (AF/D), Lukáš Kándl (CZ/F), Tomasz Kopera (P/U.K.), Aleš Krejča (CZ), Brigid Marlin (USA/UK), Vlada Mirkovic (SER), Hans-Peter Müller (D), Martin-Georg Oscity (SK/D), Alexej Ravski (BY), Reinhard Schmid (D), Boris Shapiro (UA/ISR), Yu Sugawara (J), Eli Tiunine (P/F), Petre Velicu (RO/ F), Pavel Žáček (CZ), Siegfried Zademack (D), Olivier Zappelli (CH)

Lukáš Kándl, the head of the Groupe Libellule is in his adopted country of France a member of numerous cultural organisations. He has organized all over Europe numerous sensational group shows, which he and his wife Françoise prepared and carried out. With the town of the Bavarian Forest, Viechtach, has been forged a deep friendship. This relationship came about via artist Reinhard Schmid, whose painting Kándl very much appreciates. At Kándl’s invitation Schmid has already participated in many group exhibitions, including last Autumn at the Grand Palais in Paris. The city itself Viechtach supports the Biennale as part of its plans to establish itself as a center of fantastic art in Bavaria. Gerhard Habarta one of the world’s best authorities on a Fantastic Art has been invited as a speaker for the opening on 11 September. Habarta a Viennese native, has written many extremely interesting papers, newspaper reports and books on the subject, including the “Lexicon of the Fantastic Artists.” In 1999 Habarta was awarded the Austrian Honorary Cross for Science and the Arts.
