HR Giger died from injuries sustained because of a fall on Monday the 12th of May 2014. After tripping and falling down stairs at his Zurich home, he was rushed to hospital where he later passed away, aged 74.
Giger was best known for his bio-mechanical style of artwork was thrust into international recognition after his work on the film Alien. His work on Ridley Scott’s film earned him an Oscar for special effects in 1980.
Giger leaves behind a large body of work in varied mediums, such as painting, drawing, print, sculpture and furniture.
