“Exquisite Corpse” is a game developed by the Surrealists in which players write in turn on a sheet of paper, fold it to conceal part of the writing, and then pass it to the next player for a further contribution. Principle Surrealism founder André Breton reported that it started in fun, being playful but eventually enriching. Breton said the diversion started about 1925, but Pierre Reverdy wrote that it started much earlier, at least before 1918.

In 2004, Bernard Dumaine (F), created several Exquisite Corpses in cooperation with the American artist Deborah Valentine (USA). They then went on to found the DeviantArt group “The Exquisite Corpse“. Since then, many artists have joined and the group continues to grow.

Bernard Dumaine has now published the book “Miximages – Exquisite Corpses“, of 78 pages, containing 80 collaborative drawings from 37 artists scattered all over the world. The book is available through Blurb.com.
